Winchcombe Park Pump Track

What is a pump track?

A pump track is a continuous loop of banked turns, rollers & jumps. Designed and built in such a way that it enables users of all ability to circulate the track without the use of pedalling.
Pumping requires riders to push down then pull up through bending of arms & legs on the downward or upward slope of any roller or jump. This action is similar to keeping momentum on a swing by moving legs back & forwards. To perfect this technique, it can take time and be tiring but, once perfected, is a very satisfying feeling. Pump tracks offer a challenge to the very beginner, intermediate and expert rider.
A typical track size and shape can vary. The beauty is that no one track is the same and when built correctly, offers users multiple lines and options to flow through the sections and turns.
Ideally, a pump track requires a nice large level plot, however a track can also fit in to a tight space, around trees or existing play facilities, for example skate parks and green spaces.
To ensure our tracks are rideable all year round we recommend Asphalt (Tarmac riding surface). Not only does this mean that a track is virtually maintenance free, it offers a more consistent, grippy riding surface that is smooth and fast enough to facilitate the use of skate boards, scooters and skates.
Location dependent, track construction can be formed from existing earth on site or alternatively imported. We recommend building with crushed quarried stone to ensure a compact track base and solidity of the jump and berm structures. Using our years of building experience and expert team the Asphalt riding surface is laid by hand and shaped perfectly beforecompaction.
